The Burgess family were pioneers of Missouri, Colorado, Utah and Montana, and played major roles in the early development of communities like Boulder and Steamboat Springs. Through a series of blog posts, we will profile several of Perry's early business partners found in his diaries and other writings. It would be easier to say who Andrew Joseph Macky wasn't. He wasn't a slacker. He wasn't a miser. And he wasn't a simpleton. A native of New York, A.J. Macky was a self-made man whose fortune was earned through hard work and keen business acumen. Macky could see the future in places others weren't even looking, and he created opportunity everywhere he went. Macky was born in 1834 and journeyed by ox team to Colorado in 1859. Read More
